The Dr. William T. Hold/The National Alliance Program in Risk Management and Insurance at Florida State University offers programs in risk management and insurance at the undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral levels. The master’s program is fully online and designed for the working professional. The Hold Program is a leader in graduating students prepared for careers in the risk management and insurance industry. The program has been ranked as one of the top RMI programs in the country by U.S. News and World Report.

The RMI program focuses on preparing students for the ever-changing risk management and insurance environment through a curriculum that includes a strong background in risk management, insurer operations, and insurance products. Additionally, the new risk management/sales double major helps students to prepare for careers in insurance sales to meet the growing demand of the industry.

Students are supported in their professional development through scholarships, travel grants to attend industry meetings, funding for industry designations, and credit for internships. Students also have the opportunity to be paired with an insurance professional for mentorship and career advice. Finally, the program assists in job placement through a job posting board and its annual job fair, Insurance Days, each February. These opportunities are made possible due to the strong support of alumni and the industry. The Risk Management Executive Council, which consists of more than 20 industry leaders, is actively involved with these efforts.

Florida State University also has an active Gamma Iota Sigma (GIS) chapter that offers students the chance to gain leadership experience and interact with the industry and students from other universities. This student run organization sponsors activities throughout the year that include educational sessions, professional development activities, and community service events.
